Generic Risperdal
(Generic name: Risperidone)
Risperdal Uses
Generic Rispredal (Risperidone) is used to treat psychotic conditions marked by distorted thoughts,
perceptions and emotions such as schizophrenia.
How Taken
Adults should take 1mg twice a day, then 2 mg twice a day, then 3mg three times per day for
the first three days with increased up to 20mg per day.
Risperdal Precautions
Generic Risperdal may cause adverse reactions in older patients. Therefore, avoid such
activities such as driving and hazardous work until it is determined how the drug will affect you.
Avoid alcohol.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the
missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Risperdal Side Effects
Rapid heartbeat, profuse sweating, seizures, difficulty breathing, stiffness in the neck,
swelling of the tongue, difficulty swallowing and a rare condition called nueroliptic
malignant syndrome, characterized by spasms of the muscles, high fever, and confusion or
disorientation are serious side effects and should be reported to your doctor.
Storage
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Overdose
Drowsiness and rapid heartbeat with low blood pressure and seizures indicate on overdose.
Seek medical treatment immediately.
More Information
Prolonged use may lead to tardive dyskinsesia involuntary movements of the jaw, lips,
and in rare cases the arms, legs, hands and feet.
Consult your doctor and keep follow up
appointments as lab tests must be done if the patient is to be on
the medication for an extended period of time.
