Generic Zocor
(Generic name: Simvastatin)
Zocor Uses
Generic Zocor (Simvastatin) is used to
treat high cholesterol. Usually prescribed after the
first lines of treatment including diet, weight loss and exercise fail to
reduce total and low density lipoprotein cholesterol to acceptable levels.
How Taken
5 to 10mg once per day. Can be increased by your doctor up to 40mg per day.
Generic Zocor is most effective when taken in the morning.
Zocor Precautions
No special precautions apply.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to the
time for your next regularly scheduled dose. In that case, skip the dose and
resume your regular dosage schedule. Do not double the next dose.
Zocor Side Effects
Fever, unusual or unexplained muscle aches and tenderness are serious side effects
and should be reported to your doctor.
Storage
Store in tightly sealed container and keep away from heat and direct light.
Zocor Overdose
No known cases reported.
More Information
Consult your doctor is you are taking cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, niacin or
antibiotics, especially etythromycin or medications being used to treat fungus
infections as these may increase the risk of muscle inflammation and could
lead to kidney failure.
