Atarax Uses
Generic Atarax is used for several conditions.
Its mild sedative effect is useful in treating insomnia and agitation in some patients.
It is also used to treat itching, hives and other allergy symptoms, to control nausea and vomiting,
to ease the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and to provide mild sedation prior to a dental procedure or
to the administration of general anesthesia before surgery.
How Taken Atarax
For sedation – 50mg to 100mg a day in adults.
For allergy symptoms, 25 to 100mg three or four times per day or as needed.
Warnings/Precautions
Atarax may impair mental alertness and therefore caution is advised.
In patients over the age of 60, reactions may be more adverse and more likely.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and
continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Loss of coordination, seizures, extreme drowsiness, breathing difficulty, and the inability to urinate are
serious side effects and should be reported to your doctor immediately.
Storage Atarax
Store in a tightly sealed container and keep away from heat, moisture and direct light.
Overdose
Excessive side effects may indicate that an overdose has been ingested.
Seek medical assistance immediately and inform your doctor.
More Information
Consult your doctor for specific advise if you are taking any drugs that would suppress the central nervous system;
these include antidepressants, antihistamines, sedatives, cough medicines and decongestants and painkillers.
